Love it. Please do more colour pencil videos! Whose your inspiration for colour pencil works?
I have used these brushes for more than a year along with my more expensive watercolor brushes. The hair is weasel but they are good, especially for the price. I like the long handles and big sizes.
When i try it painting over the pencil it ruins my drawing !Yet im watching n i see nothing happening to yours except alittle fading ? Why ?😮
@@leoalvarado6466 does it smear graphite? I specifically use faber castell 9000s because they have clay base and they don’t smudge too bad. You could also take a kneaded eraser and roll it over your drawing first to get up excess graphite.
I know some bands that would love to get such artworks. Any way of contacting you? =)
Do you make these to sell? I love this to go in my art toolkit bag. Great idea.
Thanks! I don’t because they’re not my idea and I hardly have time. There are people on Etsy that make them though and I bet you could request the size to slip in. It’s honestly easy to do yourself. It’s just 2 boards cut to 5”x8 or so and then hinged together with Southco friction hinge. Home repair shops can cut it and all you’d need is a drill to install the hinge.
@@JaredCullum What type of boards could I use? Would Home Depot cut it to that size?
@@debradavisfineart yes- you can use any. Plywood is probably the easiest. Baltic birch and whatever thickness you’d want. Half inch would be heavy- 1/8 would be flimsy but feather light. Some specialty wood shops sell little Baltic birch panels. Blick sells them for people to turn into oil panels. You could get a 6x8 and cut an inch off. If you use a thin board like mine you’ll have to stack them where you out the hinge so it has more to screw in. That brown strip on mine is a 3”4 inch strip of walnut I cut to the size and wood glued on before drilling the hinge into it. If you pause you can or probably figure it out. James Gurney made a video on how to make these- although his are bigger.
@@debradavisfineart mine are 1/4” Baltic birch I ordered from Rockwood wood.
Ps I was at Home Depot the other day and saw they have 1/4” and 1/8 panels. I remember thinking “this would make good drawing boards” but you could ask if they’d cut that for you into 2 panels.
Je ne connaissais pas ces peintures a l huile
Brilliant.
Beautiful! Can I ask where you got your pochade box?
Thank you! They’re kinda expensive but hand made and really beautiful. Alla Prima Pochades. This is the 10x12 light. There’s a full version with slide out drawers
@@JaredCullum Ah, yes, I have the same one on my wish list already!
Hi Jared - Don't know if you remember me from a long time ago, but I wanted to drop you a note to say how happy I am to see your channel doing well. Love your painting in this video. Hope you are well and again, just wanted to drop by to say I'm glad to see your success. All the best - Marty
Marty! Of course I remember you. I'm a fan of your channel! Always a joy to see when you post. Thanks so much for dropping a line. I need to comment more on yours and other channels. Your comment made my day. Thank you for the kindness and encouragement.
more bad advice form a novice ...look elswhere ... he doesn't even know how to keep his acrylic open .. paint for a year then talk
Hi Scott. What an unkind thing to post on a strangers videos. I can’t imagine speaking to anyone that way. I’m pretty clear that my videos are sharing a process of growth. Not all are advice. I’m a an illustrator but have painted for years. I’m sure you’ll find videos from painters you respect elsewhere.
This was great. I just started painting with gouache. Maybe I’m missing it, is there a way to get the rest of this course?
I don't have a way right now for the rest. It was a class I taught live. I have gouache demos and tutorials on my patreon but no pressure to join, of course. :)
I mainly use watercolor, but I discovered opaque mediums and really like them. I love the way you use gouache in a very thick and painterly style. What's really challenging for me is how fast it dries on my mixing palette. I dont like to use too much water either
Thank you so much for your kind comment :) I appreciate you watching.
I have wanted to learn to sketch for decades! Thank you for your secret. I need to force myself to begin…yet again. I have zero talent, but a secret desire. Thank you again.
Nice! I want to learn gouache as well. I purchased a starter set, but I need to find the time to sit down and learn! Love your work thank you for sharing!
Sooo lovely ,you are ever so lucky what a beatiful picture 😊😊 greetings Christiane
It's so beautiful artwork🎆
You again!! You can make a bloody museum by now! Just kidding! congrats great find!
Haha I wish! That’s the dream :)
😮
That’s impressive, I’d never stop looking at it 😂
Wonderful to watch you paint, Jared, wonderful work! Would you share the brands of your materials you use?
Thank you! For gouache I use all m graham materials. Raphael kaerell is my favorite synthetic for brushes but any seem to work fine. Strathmore 182lb mixed media paper here. Usually arches hot press for gouache
Great to know, thank you so much!🤗👌
So lovely. Didn’t even know brass palettes could be made without your own forge or something and a watermill.
Haha
J'aime toujours autant votre travail, merci de le partager ! Bise from la France
I struggle with painting.... getting past the "blob" phase. Thanks for sharing your process
Beautiful!
Great again!
A spectacular talent. Zbukvic's passion for painting is palpable.
Truly! :)
Great work! What large flat brush are you using for the larger areas, please? The blue one. Thanks in advance.
I use a 1in flat synthetic. I use mostly cheap ones. The nicest one that I use the most is a Raphael kaerrel. Other than that I have a R Simmons white synthetic and a Utrecht. The cheaper fall apart a bit more but that can be good for interesting textures.
@@JaredCullum Good tip! I was going to ask about the brush too, lol.
That looks so sickk!!
Thanks for watching!
I'm an artist too and i use gouache too, and i'm amazed by your result.
Thank you! That means a lot :)
Where did you get all these interesting looking object??? Do you have a Pinterest board?
So beautiful. It was a joy to watch the progress.
Thank you :)
I noticed you’re working from a picture. No shame in that - I couldn’t have left those donuts lying there long enough to paint them from life either. Nice job as usual. Thank you.
Hah! I love to work from life as much as possible but with 2 young kids and a crazy schedule, it’s just too hard to only work from life. Thank you :)
🥰
FIRST LET'S GOOOO
Haha
@@JaredCullum I saw your video "posted 58 seconds ago" and knew it was my chance🤣 Seriously though, I love your work, started watching your videos a few weeks back and it's really inspiring stuff. I have a ways to go learning the ins and outs of watercolor and gouache myself, but I'm trying not to get too intimidated by it, haha. Hope you're doin well!
I just love this way of working with gouch. You are an amazing artist, I have a question from you, how do you decide on the color of the watery and see through wash you do first? Like here with the three main colors. Sorry for my bad English
Hi! Thank you for watching. The wash color doesn't really matter since you cover it up. You can use it for either contrast by picking a color that contrasts your final , like a cool vs warm or warm vs cool. A lot of people use just burnt sienna or burnt umber or some mix of the 3 primaries. I like to use multi color because it helps me to block in the big shapes fo the drawing first.
This is a GLORIOUS tool 😍
I've seen this video months ago and I followed the tips. I thought I would share how it helped me. It changed a lot in my mind and help me understand why i draw. It also improved my skills. I can draw anything now because I'm not afraid of failure anymore. I recommend this method to anyone who doubts themselves and is looking for a way to start making progress, mentally and in skills. I can't express how grateful I am for your help.
I'm so glad :) that really means a lot to me.
Hello ! Super dispositif 👍🏻 Quelles sont les propositions ? J'ai vraiment le bois pour des raisons éthiques et nobles mais ça me semble lourd pour un usage nomade. Merci beaucoup James pour vos idées et votre travail 🙏🏻
Soo nice great sketch . Why is it secret? Greetings 😊
It’s just part of a drawing exercise. I don’t care about it being “secret” anymore but part of the exercise is that you pick one sketchbook no one is allowed to see. Then you’re more likely to draw more if you don’t have to make perfect looking sketches. Less pressure
Yes that is such a good idea. Do you keep the sketchbook in a big drawing comunity. Red is a colour that jumps inbeteween lots of black books it is a signal colour greetings 😊
@@christianebehr138 that would be a neat idea. Its just a drawing practice I have done over the years to improve and always recommend to students. :)
So thanks for your notice. It is time for me to start a sketch book have a nice sunday greetings 😊😊
Come back to Alaska and teach at the Fairbanks summer arts festival! The midnight sun is more fun than winter in Kodiak lol
I am dying to!
I wouldn't know who to contact to go but if I did I would because I adore Alaska and would love to paint there again. :) Especially teaching! :)
??
It is a reference to a video I did on a drawing exercise I have done for the past 10 years involving picking 1 sketchbook no one can look at and drawing only from life with ink fountain or roller pens. There’s a link to the explanation in the description
@JaredCullum The link doesn't work though.
@@isabellabrodowsky9618 thanks for telling me- I’ll try to fix it
@@isabellabrodowsky9618I added it to the “related video” so it should link. My apologies to all! I’m not great with UA-cam stuff. Thanks for your patience
Could you tell me the price you paid in $
Was a gift from a friend - sorry
@@JaredCullum I wasn't asking you to sell it to me. Joseph's wife Lisa will sell the book and I just want an idea of how much it will cost
@@PaulOniel534 I didn’t think you were, Paul. I was saying I don’t know. I wish I could tell you- my friend got it and sent it to me. I don’t know what it cost. I bought the last one and it was 125 I think.. so my guess would be around there. It has less pages but a nice slip cover. I would be on 125-150 and then shipping but I could be wrong. Sorry im not more of a help on that
@@JaredCullum thank you so much, sorry for the misunderstanding
😊 lovely book beatiful pictures greetings 😊
It's a shame his books are rare and are not translated to other languages.
I have a couple in Chinese like chien chung Wei’s book. I just use google translate with the audio feature and it translates and reads it out loud like an audiobook.
Why is it all in Chinese?
It was produced for an exhibition in China going on at the moment.
@@JaredCullum thanks for letting me know. Do you know if it will be released in English too?
So gorgeous
Such a stunning book. His work is wonderful.
This is so helpful, Jared. And I'd love to see more videos like it! I'm a very beginner artist. I love painting, but I know I want to develop my drafting accuracy as well. It can feel hard to know where to start. I appreciate you sharing your experience and insight.
Thanks for watching! :) I’m always around to offer help on your journey. It takes patience but anyone can learn to improve drawing.
Beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, but would be so helpful to know what color palette you are using.
Azo yellow, yellow ochre, cad red light, alizarin, ultramarine, burnt sienna, burnt umber, lilac, rose pink although I didn’t end up using it.
